Biblioteca Medicea

We are visiting Florence for 8 days in late October.

This is the first of what will probably be a number of questions. I'm a bit of a planner!!!!

Of the places we would like to visit I notice in my guide it says that for the Biblioteca Medicea, special permission is needed to visit and only with a guided tour. Is it possible for an individual to visit and how do you arrange a tour? Or should I cross it off my list? I see from the forum that it has been closed in the past for visitors, is it still?

Also my guide says that to visit the Cappella Brancacci inside Chiesa Santa Maria del Carmine, advance reservation is required. Is this necessary for late October. I see from searching the forum that people have in the past said it is not necessary to make an advanced reservation out of season.

I wouldn't bother with booking the Brancacci in late October.

Anon,

Thanks for that. I had read the post that you linked, but it referred to earlier in the year and I wondered whether it was still closed? The Biblioteca's own website seems to indicate it is open, at least the vestibule.

We will be visiting San Lorenzo, so we will see when we are there.

The definative answer to your question: will the biblioteca laurentiana be open to visitors in October? the answer is YES.

It is open for a special display of rolls and codices. Ticket is cumulative with the church. I have a feeling it's mornings only.
