Best hotel to stay at by train station in Florence?

If we stay in Florence for 8 days what is the best hotel to stay at that would be close to the train station?

What is your budget? There are likely several dozen that are within a 20 minute walk.

There's a number of good hotels in and around Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which is just a spit & a holler from the station and is quiet and not at all seedy.

Take a look at the Gran Hotel Minerva, Hotel Universo, Hotel Rosso 23, Hotel L'Orologio, Hotel Roma, J.K.Place…

To add to the wonderful suggestions posted above, we'd add Casa Howard (www.casahoward.it). What a funky jewel/gem of a place!

We like to stay at Hotel Europa on Cavour - it is about a 10 minute walk to the train station - my 82 year old mom pulled her luggage! The Hotel is in sight of the Duomo, 2 blocks to David and near the market and some nice shops and restaurants. It is very quiet and has a decent breakfast. The owners are terrific and extremely helpful. I've stayed 3 times and hope to return soon!
