Duomo in Florence

We are going to be in Florence for a couple of days in September and would like to climb the Duomo. Does anyone know if you can buy tickets in advance to avoid the queues? I have found a website which sells tickets …firenze.waf.it/museo/318-churches-and-relig… but I'm not sure if this lets you skip the queue. I would appreciate some advice about this. Thanks!

There is a ticket you can buy at the Duomo Musuem that is called the Dome & Terraces tour that lets you skip the line. You can also buy online

One other piece of advice/suggestion - there's usually a lot less queuing for the climb of the Campanile which has the added advantage (over climbing the dome) of having a great view *of* the dome.

The Duomo and Terraces tour is currently suspended and we have no clues when it will be back. There is usually a queue for the Duomo and we don't know of another way to skip it, but the good news is it is fast moving (in contrast to the queue to climb the cupola which can involve quite a long wait at busy times).

The best advice for climbing the dome of the Duomo is to get there early in the morning. This way you avoid the line the builds later in the day, and it's cooler when you climb.

entrance to the cathedral is free . tickets to the Dome are sold inside . it will not take you more than 8 minutes in the line .

The cupola, bell tower and baptistery are all covered by Firenze Card (http://www.firenzecard.it/). You skip the line to all three. As for the line, sometimes you'll find one, sometimes you won't. If you don't have the card and want to buy tickets, they're now sold from the OPA office directly across from the entrance to the Baptistry, not inside the duomo.

Best times to climb are first thing in the morning and last thing before they close. Mornings are cooler, and if you're the first ones up, you won't have to deal with sharing the very close quarters of the stairs with the people climbing down.

Given the choice between climbing the dome and climbing the bell tower, the dome wins hands down. Not only do you get a great view from the top, you get an awesome view into the interior of the cathedral from inside of the dome. You get an up close and personal view of the frescoes that decorate the interior of the dome by Vasari and Zuccari. And you get to see the audacious innovations that Brunelleschi cooked up to make the whole thing happen!

Is the Terraces tour still suspended?

I cannot see a mention of it on the official site.

Thank you.

Yes, no sign of it returning.
