You must enter Firenze. If you don't know which station is better for you then choose Firenze tutte le stazioni.

The main train station of Florence is called Santa Maria Novella. The two secondary stations are Rifredi and Campo di Marte. Trains from La Spezia arrive at Santa Maria Novella. They're regional trains, so no - you don't buy your tickets in advance.

Have fun in Florence!

Just a heads up in that station, we went in to buy tickets for a train 2 days out and we were glad we did not want them that day, there were huge lines and you have to take a number from a machine which is not very visible, lucky for us some one told us where it was and had a long wait before getting to a window to purchase them.

There are automatic machines but local gypsies stand next to them wanting money to try and help you and if you are not familiar with them and know exactly what train you need its better to wait in line.
