Apartment or B&B ?

My oldest daughter is getting married in Florence next May and my younger daughter and her husband will be joining us. We will be staying for 5 nights and are trying to save some money on lodging. We would like to stay in the heart of Florence and would like a bath in the room. Other than that we certainly don't expect luxury. Are there any apartments that rent for 5 nights or would we be better to look for two rooms at a B&B? Don't mean to sound cheap but we really would rather spend our money on the wedding and not on our lodging.

Thanks!

Most apartments have a minimum rental of 3 nights so you could probably easily find one to rent for 5. Try the owners direct websites such as homeaway, airbnb etc.

We used VRBO #378966 but there were just two of us. Very central location.

Yes, there are quite a few apartments available for 5 nights. Can anyone suggest a neighborhood? If we have a kitchen we will want to go to the market to buy food. Which areas have good markets or grocery stores?

The one we stayed in was in San Lorenzo, which turned out to be a good location. You can walk there from the train station, there are shops, and the main sites are very close by.

San Lorenzo is very close to the central market which is great for fresh produce, but it is quite touristy and noisy I have found. Sant' Ambrogio has a good daily market and is frequently recommended as a nice neighbourhood to stay in and with a slightly more local feel than some parts.

I stayed in one of the garden apartment at Residenza iL cARMINE. They have a couple of bigger apts.

it's across the river in the Oltrarno, but Florence is a samll place and you can easily walk to the center area aroudn the Duomo.

It's in a great neighborhood. There is daily cleaning except on Sunday. the landlady lives across the courtyear and will answer questions and help with summoning a taxi on the phone. And best of all this place takes credit cards for both the deposit and the cost of lodging. Most apts want cash in euro on arrival.

It's the green house on this google map

There is a good grocery store near the Ponte Vecchio. If you walk across it heading south (opposite the Ufizzi) take your first left, and it will be down just a little ways on the right. Blue sign that says Sapori & Dintori. You can save TONS of money if you buy water, snacks, and wine from the supermarket. Plus, it's fun. Bring a good corkscrew and you'll be all set!
