Do earlybirds stilll need museum reservations?

I will be in Florence for three days in mid-October and am debating getting a Firenze card, which seems to be pricey but provides a lot of flexibility. if one gets to the Uffizi or the Academy at 8:15 a.m. are there still lines?

Absolutely, for much of the year you'll find a line from well before 8 am (I've sometimes seen it as early as 7.30) as there are lots of people with a similar idea. It may not be quite as long as at other times of the day and you will, of course, be amongst the first people in but there'll still be a wait.

Decide which museums are your priorities and you may find that the Amici degli Ufffizi Card might be the better option.

It doesn't cover as many sites as the Firenze Card, but costs 60€ (100€ for a family of four) against 72€ for the Firenze Card.

If you only really want the Accademia and Uffizi, it might be preferable to simply book a time slot for these two.

By all means, book. It never hurts -- follow La Straniera's sage advice. And Pericoloso's, too.

We just left Academical and it's a short visit for most after David. The lines were short at opening but huge after the tours arrived. We had a reserved time so got right in at0815. We then did Gucci and San Croce church where Gallileo and DaVinci are buried. Be sue and reserve David and Uffuzi but just show up at others. Be sure and eat or drink at Gucci museum. Very reasonable and first rate eats surprisingly affordable compared to nearby tourist traps.

the lines at such places are always longest, first thing in the morning. occasionally lines are short in the early afternoon but you can't count on that when you are there for a short time.
