Day Trip from Rome to Florence

We, as a family of 4 with 2 teens are staying in Rome for the Christmas, arriving Dec. 22 and leaving Dec. 27. I am planning the trip, and I am wondering if it is worth it or even possible to

do a day trip from Rome to cities such as Florence or Napoli. If it is possible and worth it to try, what would be the best day between 22nd and 26th. Knowing most of the museums are closed on the Christmas Day in Rome, would it be a good idea to try a different city walking tour on the Christmas Day other than Rome? And also I tried to do online booking for Uffizi Gallery on Dec. 26 to see it is opened on the 26th, and it did not take it. Does it mean that it is closed on the 26th as well, or the number of the guest which is 6(with friends and our family) was too large a number to host.

As far as I know it is open on 26th. Rather than booking online, you should phone. The details are here :

There is an English option and they will give you the information you need and take your booking.

It's definitely worth it. Why not! Florence is only 90 minutes away by high speed train.

The Uffizi is open on December 26. There should be know problem booking 6, but as Pericoloso advises, do it by phone. Call +39 055 294 883, press #2 for English and you're on your way. The reservations line is open 8:30-6:30 Tuesdays through Fridays, 8:30-12:30 Saturdays - Florence time, of course!
