Art Guide (Book)

Hi, I'm looking for a book that discusses various art in Florence (and Rome, if possible) to read before I make my trip. Basically, I'd like a book that covers some of the more popular art, sculptures, etc and gives you a basic overview of the piece and artist. I'm not an art history buff, but I do admire much of the renaissance art and would like to more before I go. Any thoughts?

If you have the chance, try to find art books written by Philippe Daverio: they are very interesting and funny too.

His art tv shows are very nice, I don't know if you speak Italian but the name of the show is passepartout and you can find it free on streaming here (totally legal)
