Pisa-Florence?

Hi,

We are flying to Pisa Airport next Saturday. We should land around 2-3pm, so wish to make use of the rest of the day. We will have 3 more days. Should we go directly to Florence and then visit Pisa later, or stay in Pisa and explore from there? Would really appreciate any advice on the most efficient way to spend our time while there.

Thank you!

I think i would say - spend the afternoon in Pisa and head to Florence later. If you wish to climb the tower, you must pre-book.

You can get a shuttle bus to Pisa Centrale station, where you can leave your luggage and then get a bus to the Campo to visit the Tower, Baptistry and Cathedral. Then get a train to Florence in the evening.

Thank you so much. This sounds like the plan. I'll look for the info on the lockers (?) at the Centrale station as that was the main concern in deciding how to do what to do in addition to time on transport.

There are no luggage lockers at any train station in Italy, for security reasons. Some main stations, including Pisa Centrale, have staffed luggage storage rooms.

Allow yourself enough time to re-claim your luggage before your scheduled train departure to Florence. There is sometimes a considerable line of re-claimers, on a Sunday, of those who have spent the afternoon just as you have.

Thank you. I guess that's safer in some ways, though probably a bit more costly.

We did the same last week.

We got the mover to pisa train station & left our luggage at the left luggage place at the station (next to the station police & 4€ per piece). To get to the leaning tower/duomo, It is a relaxed 30 minute stoll or an 8€40 taxi ride.

book you tower tickets in advance online for 3 hours after you land (to allow for delays/baggage/travelling into town). We found that we could not get a walkin ticket for the tower for the day. Pisa is worth an afternoon.

It is not to be missed. The alternative is to do the trip on your last day prior to your flight
