Two of my favourites that will meet your stated requirements are Da Francesco in Corte Portici and Trattoria GiGi in Piazza del Carmine.

The former serves traditional Lucchese cuisine the latter Lucchese cuisine with a slightly modern twist.

Buon appetito!

Here are some of the restaurants in which we have had some very enjoyable meals.

Antico Sigillo on Via Degli Angeli

Gli Orti di on Via Elisa

Trattoria Gigi in Piazza del Carmine

Buca di Sant'Antonio on Via della cervia, this restaurant is the most exspensive on the list but is worth the extra Euros

If you're willing to take a 10-min. taxi ride, consider Villa Bongi in Montuolo (high up, view alone is worth the trip). www.villabongi.it

As you may have seen reported Lucca was at the heart of a campaign to return to real Italian food recently, you can find the article on the Times website. I am a frequent visitor to Lucca and can wholly recommend Gigi Trattatori as well. The restaurant relies on its local trade, the tourist visitors are its bonus. Everything is produced by themselves, it is a proper Italian trattatoria, you will find a mix of locals eating local food. Make sure you book, its busy at weekends. A similar style restaurant and good alternative is Da Leo.
