Mountains near Lucca

Is the high mountains near Lucca passable during these months.

Or I guess I should ask; are they passable on a bicyle?

I'm going to Lucca to train in mountains, so it would be a bummer if I couldn't ride in the mountains due to Icy roads (dangerous descending), or snow.

in garfagnana area roads will be ok, higher maybe not because of the snow into roads too...

In general they will be passable, all the way up to Abetone the ski resort, however the area is vulnerable, above Castelnuovo in particular. Villages are cut off usually for not more than a few days at a time each winter, but it does happen.

Abetone opened for skiing this weekend, snow on all trails! So i'd say you can only go so high on your bike...

Yes, although I've never been up there is winter proper, there are enough road signs advising snow chains and even snow poles high up to make you think it can get pretty bad up there.
