Earthquake felt in Lucca:
No reports of significant damage or injury yet though, so fingers crossed it stays that way.
Some of us living near Livorno truly felt the earth move today at 15:38 (or was it :48?). Fingers crossed, too, Peggy.
There have been aftershocks during the night but so far only a few chimneys damaged.
The report this morning in the Corriere della Sera said there was little or no damage reported immediately but that in addition to the towns around the epicentre (Castiglione Garfagnana, Villa Collemandina, Pieve Fosciana e Fossandora) Lucca really shook, as did Viareggio. Schools / civic buildings would be closed today so that thorough checks could be carried out for structural damage. Mayor Renzi reports no damage anywhere in Florence, where newspaper reports said it was felt quite badly. Was anyone there? Didn't feel anything down here.
I was just walking out of the Accademia yesterday at 3:38 (or was it :48?) Didn't feel a thing. Friends in Florence and as far away as Reggio Emilia and Milano said they got pretty tumbled. Maybe it was just that hanging out with Michelangelo, Perugino, Lippi, Allori, Bronzino, Daddi, Orcagna and their friends always puts me on Cloud 9.
