Try visiting Lucca. It's only about 20 minutes or so by train. Beautiful little town to spend a day or two. Train very cheap , only a few euros to get there.

Buses from airport to centre of Pisa is about a euro, taxis 10 euros(ish).

If staying longer you could try trips to Florence or Cinque Terre.

There is much more than the Leaning Tower. The secret is to keep that last, because it's so outstanding that the rest seems a bit less interesting. But Pisa is a really nice city. Piazza dei Cavalieri, and Piazza Dante are both great. The Church of San Francesco, Santa Caterina and San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno are well worth a visit, so is the Templar church of Santo Spirito.
