I'm not sure there's a question!

There is a train station right at the Pisa airport. Go to trenitalia.com for details. Dates for May probably won't be available yet, but just put in a closer date. Right before your trip print out time schedules. Riding the train in Italy is very easy - you buy your tickets at the train station before you leave. Do allow time for standing in line, even at the machines.

In most cases you will take the very short ride to Pisa and then transfer to the train to Florence.

Are you flying out of Rome? That would give you some extra time. Otherwise your time in Rome is very short.

thank you ...yes flying home from Rome so thought 3 days in each would give a decent amount of time to see the main sights .

just abit nervous of travelling by train in a foreign country but hiring a car seems pointless...and expensive !!

The trains are not difficult to use, and a bargain compared to UK prices. Here's some information on using the trains and buying tickets.
