I'd stay in Florence, for accommodations: www.venere.com or www.booking.com

Fly Gatwick to Pisa. Leave your luggage in store at Pisa Central station walk or get a bus to Tower , return and get train to Florence for three nights.

Depends what time your flights are. If you arrive at Pisa Airport at 7pm and depart at 10am then you probably don't want to stay in Florence, if the times are reversed then you might want to do as ocpony and Love2roam_uk have suggested. Although, don't forget if you want to visit Lucca it's quicker and cheaper to get to from Pisa than from Florence.

There are flights Heathrow to Pisa, too. If you don't see a schedule out of one airport, enter the other (Gatwick/Heathrow.)
