Travel time from civitavecchia to siena by car

We are going to be staying in Rome for five days this August after completing a cruise at Civitavecchia. SInce we will be getting off the ship early and have been to Rome before, I was thinking of having a driver pick us up at the port, detour for a day trip to Siena, and then return to Rome by evening.

Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to drive from Civitavecchia to Siena? Siena to Rome is supposed to be about

2.5 hours depending on traffic.

Viamichelin.com has the route taking 2h39m. They are sometimes a bit optimistic, but it's a start.

The two estimates from TABarrett and Elemay sound about right if there is no traffic or other hold ups. And if you have a driver there shouldn't be any problems getting lost.. The first time we drove from Fiumicino to Siena - driving right past Civitavecchia and up the coast and then back roads over the mtn to Siena - it took us about 3 1/2 hrs. Cut if down the next trip because we knew where we were going - 3 hrs.

Since then - if we land in Rome - we drive to the Grande Raccordo Anulare (the ring road around the city of Rome) and right up A1 to Tuscany and east over to Siena. - 2.5 hours.

Certainly doable either way if you leave early - although besides being quicker, we enjoy the scenery going north on A1 to the scenery along that particular coast drive. Oh - one other thing - I see you are talking August - that is the HIGH season along the coast - especially on weekends - and you want to avoid driving back and forth to the coast like the plague! The Italians jam the hiways to and from the coasts in August.

Just be sure to talk this over with your driver before embarking. Good Luck.

It's way too far. Why don't you go to Pitigliano instead?
