Bus or driver from Ravenna to Assisi?

I see the train from Ravenna to Assisi is an ordeal. Does anyone know if there is a direct bus? I do not want to spend 3/4 of a day travelling. I am very hesitant to take up driving in Italy too--must I hire a driver and car?

No direct bus...best if you consider a rental car...easy to drive in our area!

If you wish me to check on driver quotes, pls email me at anne@annesitaly.com

Ravenna to Assisi takes between 4 and 5 hours by train. Although there is no direct service, there are at least 2 daly combinations requiring only one change -- see www.trenitalia.com

As for buses, www.sulga.it has a direct bus from Ravenna to Rome stopping en route at Ponte S. Giovanni near Perugia, but don't know how convenient that may be in your case (also in view of its departure at a pretty ungodly hour).

If your want a private driver.....go to umbriadriver.com Guinalucca is wonderful. We had him for two days in 2010 to drive us all around and share with us his love of Umbria.

Can you give us a ballpark estimate on the cost of hiring a private driver. I'm guessing about 400 Euros/day, but if there is someone a lot cheaper than that I would love to know.

A hire car would be cheaper & it's not too difficult driving in Italy.

Wow, oldhousegirl, you were spot on! It is 400 Euro for 1 or 2 people from Ravenna to Assisi, and "a little bit more" for 3 -6 people. That is with a "stop" at Gubbio. I suppose that comes to a whole day's work for the driver.
