Travel to and from Assisi in May

My sister and I are travelling to Assisi from Venice. We will be staying in Assisi for 3 nights and then travelling from Assisi to Orvieto. We will be travelling by train, and would appreciate any pointers on the best options to look at. Thanks, Cathy

- Venezia S. Lucia - Firenze S. M. Novella by Trenitalia ....

(for the timetables and fares, see www.trenitalia.com, then click on UK flag)

..... or by "Italo " train

(for the timetables and fares, see http://www.italotreno.it/EN/Pages/default.aspx)

- Firenze S. M. Novella - Assisi , by Trenitalia (see above) : there are direct trains approximately every two hours (final destination: Foligno) .

- Orvieto - Assisi: you can travel by just one train change, through Terontola, or by two changes, through Foligno and Orte. Consider which combination is more comfortable and /or quicker.

On trains Venezia - Firenze (compulsory reservations, included in the price), as soon as you buy, the more you can find reduced fares.

On trains Firenze -Assisi reservation is neither necessary nor possible: just buy the ticket at the station in Venezia or Firenze, then validate it in Fire4nze at the machines located close to the platforms.

The same for Orvieto - Assisi (unless on the stretch Terontola - Orvieto or Orte - Orvieto you decide to use a train classified "Intercity ").
