There are very few long-distance buses in Italy, and I do not know of a service from Perugia to Naples. There would be very little demand for such a service.

You can go by train, taking 4 to 5 hours. You would have to change at Rome, and often also at Foligno or Terontola-Cottona. See www.trenitalia.com using a travel date before 8 June, as trains after that date are not yet on the web site.

I see nothing to suggest that the bus service operated by these people....

http://www.sulga.it/

... isn't still in action - and won't be running in August? Look on the second page here:

http://www.sulga.it/orari/orario.pdf

Details.... operates every day, leaves at 14:30 - taking 4.5 hours to reach Naples, where it should arrive at the Piazza Garibaldi bus depot by 19:00. Booking necessary, by calling the free-phone number 800 099 661 before 19:00 the previous day.... or, presumably, by going in person to either of these travel agents in the city:

Agenzia Viaggi e Turismo Pool Travel

Via Vailati, 4 - Tel. 075 35169

Biglietteria Sulga

Via G. Perari, 5 - Tel. 075 5009641

No indication of what the tickets cost, but they're probably cheaper than those for the train.... although that was how we chose to travel from and back to Naples on our own very pleasant visit to Perugia over New Year some time ago!

Going by rail takes about the same time as the bus, but you'd have more options for departure time - and could at least get up and walk around... with catering facilities and toilets on most trains!

Personally, I'd need more than merely a financial saving before I'd be willing to sit on a bus for that long?
