Driving in Perugia with baby?

Hi, I would really appreciate if anyone can assist - we are planning to stay four nights in Perugia as a base to visit Umbrian towns late winter/early spring. As we will be travelling with our 12 month old baby we will be driving from Florence (5 nights), Radda in Chianti (3 nights), Perugia (4 nights??) and Rome (4 nights??) (we were planning to stay at the Brufani Palace Hotel in Perugia).

Is it easy to drive in and out of Perugia to do day trips to Assisi, Gubbio, Spoleto and is it a good place to base ourselves?

Thank you!

Perugia is lovely but not easy for in-and-out driving - I would stay here in Assisi - very centrally located for exploration of all of Umbria - there may be tourists, but if you get into the quiet backstreets, you can completely be on your own - if there ARE many tourisits, guess why? the Basilica di San Francesco (with 10,000 sq mt of frescoes) is the single greatest complex of late Gothic/early Renaissance frescoes in the world!

4 nights too little here as you must see: Bevagna and Montefalco, Gubbio, Narni, Assisi, Spello and the tiny villages around, Todi and Deruta/Torgiano, Orvieto -and Perugia -

8 days needed...or,....

make your choices!

Happy to help out on babysitter if needed in Assisi area - English-speaking

also know of various lovely lodgings, countryside and in-town

EASTER is magical: Good Friday Procession NOT to be missed!

AssisiAnne is right about access to Perugia.

BUT if you want to stay at the Brufani (or any other central hotel in the NO TRAFFIC ZONE) you just drive there (your car plate will be captured on camera!) and then just leave your car registration number with the hotel when you check in and they notify the authorities that you are staying at their hotel and all will be well!!

However, it's not an easy place for getting FROM for sightseeing, etc.. We've been here ten years and we still get lost in Perugia!!

Thank you both so much for your responses.

Can you recommend any other luxury 5 star accommodation in Umbria which would be a good base to see the rest of Umbria? It is our 5th Wedding Anniversary, which is why we are looking for a luxury place.

Thank you again!
