Where do you need to be after your 2 nights in Switzerland, and if it's a flight back home, what time of day? It's essential to know that before looking at options.

Hi pk1013,

You are going from Venice to Genoa via Switzerland? I don't think that having only one full day in Switzerland is going to be worth that huge detour!

If you feel you MUST do this, just go to Brig and stay put there. Take a walk or two or get up to the glacier above Brig. I believe that Brig is the closest Alp town for you; it'll be about two hours north from Milan.

Have fun!

I'm with Swandav - I would rather spend the two nights somewhere along the route in Italy, like Lake of Garda, Piemonte or Ligurian coast.

But if you like to get a glimpse of Switzerland, Ticino would be the closest area, coming from Italy. It's not high alpine country, but quite hilly with nice scenery and two attractive lakes. You could stay either on Lago di Lugano or Lago Maggiore (for instance Locarno or Ascona).
