visiting switzerland in august: need help!!!!

My husband and I are planning a trip from Bombay to switzerland in end august, we have 8 nights for planning our stay. Seems there are so many places to visit, thoroughly confused on what to do and what to omit..

Were keen to cover the major highlights and at the same time, not have to shift bases between too many cities during these 8 days..Had the following itinerary in mind:

24th Aug: Landing in Geneva; proceeding to Montreux (night in Montreux)- visit the castle and promenade

25th Aug: Full Day in Montreux (do the choc train)

26th Aug: Move to Grindelwald (night in Grindelwald)

27th Aug: Move to Interlaken (night in Interlaken)

28th Aug: Full Day in Interlaken (visit juangfroch)

29th Aug: Move to Lucerne (night in Lucerne)

30th Aug: Full Day in Lucerne (mt titlis)

31st Aug: Move to Zurich (night in Zurich)

1st Sept: Depart from Zurich by early morning flight

Would esp like advice on the following:

1. Instead of staying in interlaken, were considering extending stay in grindelwald to 3 nights and visit interlaken and juangfroch from there? Is that feasible or are we better off staying in interlaken?

2. Is it better to stay in grindelwald/murren/wengen given our itinerary (need to do juangfroch and move to lucerne from there)?

3. Would it be too much to do both juangfroch and mt titlis or would u recommend that we do both? How do they compare to mt pilatus?

4. Any good hotels u can suggest in these places? our budget is abt 125-150 CHF/night for a double room?

Look forward to all the help i can get..many thnx in advance..:);)

Hi alberuni

Q1: Yes, stay in one base. It could be Grindelwald, car free Wengen or Lauterbrunnen. These places are all on the way to Jungfraujoch

Q2: see Q1

Q3: Jungfraujoch and Titlis are both glacier experiences while Pilatus - www.pilatus.ch -, Mt. Rigi - www.rigi.ch - and Stanserhorn - www.stanserhorn.ch - are less high and offer great views. Look at the Top Questions about Lucerne (TA Lucerne forum) and www.luzern.com for more information about the Lucerne area.

Q4: Look at www.myjungfrau.ch and www.luzern.com for accomodation and compare your choice with TA reviews. In Lucerne you can't go wrong with the hotels along river Reuss (very close to the lake and in the old town) at Kastanienbaum and Meggen.

thanks for the help!

Could u pl help with the following too!

1.Between the 3 towns - Grindelwald, Wengen or Lauterbrunnen, which would u suggest is a better option to stay? in terms of scenic views and economically?

2. Also, what is the best way to travel between geneva to montreaux, onwards to grindelwald and zurich?

Thanks a ton!

Hi Alberuni

1. I would choose Wengen for the great sights and the experience to be in a car freee village.

2. Geneva Montreux by train, Montreux Wengen by Goldenpass Line - www.goldenpass.ch -, which is also a train. There will be several changes. This is very scenic.

thnx once again..

was also wondering if wengen would work better than grindelwald as a base given that we'll be travelling to juangfroch and later to lucerne..also, any thoughts on glacier 3000? if one had to choose between that and mt titlis??

Grindelwald is a very busy place. Wengen is calmer. For a visit to Jungfraujoch both are good (Wengen somewhat closer) for Lucerne Grindelwald is a little bit closer. But this should not be the concern. Look at the places at www.myjungfrau.ch
