Best way to Jungfraujoch

We want to take the early morning discount trip to Jungfraujoch. We are staying overnight near Interlaken west train station the night before in Interlaken the night before but then moving on to Wengen. First what times are the trains that you can take for this early special? And to where? Lauterbrunnen? If that is the case, is there a place to store our bags until we get back near the train station in Lauterbrunnen ? Is that the best place to leave our bags as we are not going back to Interlaken that day if we can help it? I think we get another train from there . I think we can be on the mountain until noon. From there we would have to go back to Lauterbrunnen, pick up our bags, and head to our hotel in Wengen. Do I have this right? I think also there are Trummelbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen. Are they within walking distance of the train station? Will we have time to put our luggage somewhere before the train takes off for Jungfrau ? Thank you.

If you are going to spend the night in Wengen after Interlaken you would be far better off taking your cases to Wengen and not leaving them in Lauterbrunnen as this would mean coming back down to Lauterbrunnen and then going back to wengen.

so plan to leave your Interlaken hotel in time enough to get to Wengen, then drop your bags (either at the hotel OR in a locker at the station) before going on to the Jungfraujoch.

For the early morning "special" please see the Jungfraubahn site for details as this is specific to them.

For connections to Wengen see www.sbb.ch/en

Trummelbach falls are about a 30-40min walk from Lauterbrunnen. Best to do when you leave Wengen. Store your bags at Lauterbrunnen station and eithe walk or take the post bus to the falls. You can get postbus timetables on the SBB site as well...

Wengen, BTW, is also "on the mountain" - from Lauterbrunnen you will travel through Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg where you change trains for the jungfraujoch. On the way down reverse the order and get off in Wengen...

Do you have to stay the night before in Interlaken? It would be so much easier for you to do this trip from Wengen or Lauterbrunnen, or even Grindelwald. My suggestion, seeing as you're going to Wengen anyway, would be to move your hotel booking to one day earlier and do the trip from there.

Also, just watch the weather on the day you plan to go. If it's cloudy or inclement there's not much point in going at all.

It would not be practical for you to stop off in Wengen with the 'Good Morning' ticket as this requires you to take the 0800 train from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch.

Also there is no discount on this ticket if you have a pass. With a 1 month Half Fare Card not only will you travel for less to Jungfraujoch you will get a 50% discount on all your other travel such as to Schilthorn. You will also be able to take a train that runs at a time which is convenient for you to stop off in Wengen and drop your luggage at your hotel.

Swissaholic is right. You would need to be on the first train out of Interlaken Ost at 0635 to get to Kleine Scheidegg for the 0800 train, and the train you would be on from Lauterbrunnen up only stops in Wengen for 3 mins!

So - a much easier solution is to spend the night in wengen, then go up the next day. IF you are fixed in your hotel arrangements, and as you plan to stay in Wengen anyway, why not change the date of the Jungfraujoch trip to the next day? you could then do something around Interlaken, take an afternoon train to Wengen, spend the night and continue on to the Jungfraujoch on the 0724 train the next morning.

Why not contact the hotel in Wengen and ask them to meet the train in the morning and take your bags - that sounds the easiest idea to me.

That is a great idea! But with a 2 min stop they will have to be fast...
