Are the luggage lockers safe in the Bern train station?

We are planning on spending half of our first day in Switzerland in Bern en route to the Alps. Do you trust the luggage lockers?

All the posts I've read make it seem like they are coin operated but the posts were older. Is this still the case or can you use credit cards?

I will admit I have not used the lockers in Berne but the lockers elsewhere are coin operated and easy to operate. The system is simple you put your luggage in the locker insert the coins and turn the key on the outside, remove the key and take it with you so yes they are safe.

Why would they not be safe?

Train station lockers are solid and reliable.

Very safe, very serious metal construction. Yes they are still coin operated, although there is a bill>coin change machine at the station. Different sized lockers are available, largest lockers fits a couple pair of ski's.

No worries!
