Train from Geneva Airport to Laussane

I saw online that you can purchase your train ticket ahead of time. Is this necessary or is it just as easy to purchase the ticket at the time of departure?

It's not necessary to buy it in advance. There are ticket machines or the ticket office where they speak lots of languages at the airport station. You can get train timings in advance on www.rail.ch If you have a little wait at the airport station, there is a good mid-sized supermarket at the far end of the station shopping centre. You can get tasty food to eat on the train.

If you are going to do a lot of travelling in Switzerland, do think about getting one of the passes. All these are available (except the transfer ticket) at the airport station, and if you have any confusion about what would be the best for you, simply explain your general travel plans to the staff and they'll work out the best pass for you. If you are just doing a single or return journey to Lausanne, then the passes aren't worth it.

Happy travels.
