Arriving Geneva, looking for a 10 day France/Italy holiday

My husband and I are traveling in September and looking for recommendations. We are renting a car. I hope to find a cooking class in each country. Our preference is not to be in the larger cities, but in the smaller towns.

Thank you for your time!!

Hi. Just spent a day in Geneva and that was more than enough to see everything it had to offer as it's relatively small and easy to get round on foot. We travel a lot and have to say it's a pretty dull city which was extremely surprising given its importance. It's a business city in the main, making more money from banking than tourism so isn't wholly attractive. Yes there's the old town which is quaint and the lake with a giant fountain, but it has a sterile feel, a bit like parts of Belgium, is quite exclusive in parts and extremely expensive for even the basics on your stay. Cuisine is very French in style, no amazing Swiss dishes to blow your mind, but it's at least half the price in France.Visit by all means with an open mind but be prepared to be underwhelmed. Couldn't understand beforehand why the French don't flock there and why it's relatively untalked about. After visiting you see why. It's very much a "look but don't touch" kind of place. Great for watches, designer jewellery, clothes and bankers, otherwise visit Annecy and the Haut Savoie an hour or so's drive away. Much more varied, welcoming and interesting, especially for foodies. Hope this helps! :-)
