Sorry for correcting you Altamiro, but the Jet d'Eau now operates year round.

You are right, it used to close from Oct to March and reopen with the first day of the Geneva Car Show.

It has been 2 or 3 years now since the water fountain has operated all year.

Geneva actually has a big Portuguese community. If you want to meet up with some people from your own country, a fairly quick win is to find a karaoke! I know this sounds crazy, but most of them have a selection of songs in various languages and this tends to attract an international audience. Your trip appears to be midweek, so you could try the Lord Nelson on Place de Molard, which is a new karaoke, or the more established Carpe Diem (Rue du Port) on Thursday.

You have not said if you are on a holiday or working trip. If day trips out are a possibility, then Annecy in France or Montreux, at the other end of Lake Geneva are both really nice and accesible in about an hour or so (by bus to Annecy, or train to Montreux). Spending at least some time in the Old Town is a definite must, and if the weather permits, seeing the Parks (Bastions, Grange) and Flower Clock, although they are nicer in summer. Carouge is also a nice suburb of Geneva that is worth a visit.

Geneva is surprisingly small, but after sampling it for four days I am sure you will want to come back for more!

Datamonkey

Are day trips by train to Montreux expensive from Geneva. I have looked at the 4 day travel pass . Its not an option for me. My buget doesnt run to it..

For melynda,

The 2d class round-trip train ticket will cost 54 chf -- you can get fares & schedules at www.rail.ch.

Good luck!
