Swiss Pass?

we are traveling to Lucerne for three days next March,We will be leaving from Milan by train to Lucernce then traveling to Paris after that. I have been looking at Swiss Passes there are so many different ones, at this stage it doesnt look as if they will save us much money unless we can use them for our excursion to one of the mountains and perhaps and boat rides. We are also traveling with a family of four 2 adults and two children (11) (14) would they be better off getting a swiss pass and we just pay point to point. Thank you for any input you can give us. Very excited about this trip.

Unfortunately you just have to do the maths re the fares, you may find that the half fare card is a better bet. It does do what it says, but you should investigate the family card which should give your children free travel. It will also depend on which mountain you choose to visit, and what other trips you decide to do. The best place to look is the Swiss Travel website.

Hi Jacqui1963

Look for the Swiss Transfer Ticket (compare the prices on www.sbb.ch/en and www.swisstravelsystem.ch with point to point tickets). This needs to be bought from home. If you travel a lot in the Lucerne area the Tell Pass - www.tellpass.ch - could be an option. As Swisslover says, you will need to do the maths.

Swiss Pass offers a 50 % discount on mountain railways and covers all Mt. Rigi mountain railways - see www.rigi.ch -. It also couvers all ferry rides and free entrance to the Lucerne museums exxcept the traffic museum (50 % discount).

For more information about the Lucerne area look at www.luzern.com and the Top Questions about Lucerne (TA Lucerne forum).
