Lucerne to Mt. Rigi, Mt. Titlis and Mt. Pilatus.

I would appreciate if anybody in this forum could assist me with the following.

I have decided to do 3 excursions with Lucerne being my basis. I also assumed that Mt. Pilatus is the shortest trip of them all, as I don't have a full day available on Day 3. Is this correct?

Day 1: Travel from Lucerne to Mt. Rigi

Day 2: Travel from Lucerne to Mt. Titlis

Day 3: Travel from Lucerne to Mt. Pilatus

What would the most cost effect way to achieve all three of these excursions? And what would be the preferred means to travel to each?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Johan_Smit_ZA,

Pilatus is the nearest from Luzern - about an hour whereas Rigi and Titlis around 1.30 hours.

Public transport is the preferred means - check all schedules and fares here -

sbb.ch/en

If these are all the journeys you will be making in Switzerland then the Half Fare Card may work out the cheapest option. But then you must be entering and leaving Luzern from some other Swiss town so it would be advisable to work out the cost of all your journeys and then decide. You can check out features of all passes here -

Have fun.

Thank you, it is challenge to actually work out the cost.

For example, it seems cost per railway SBB return ticket

1. Luzern <-> Pilatus @ CHF 78.00

2. Luzern <-> Titlis @ CHF 36.00

3. Luzern <-> Rigi @ CHF 95.00

Does this sound right? Perhaps some of the packages might be a better option?

Regards,

Johan

The train to pilatus is not 78. This seems more like the cost of a silver or gold round ticket. Go to the Pilatus web site to see the prices for an all inclusive ticket. To get a discount at Pilatus you need a Swiss pass not a half fare pass.

Both give a 50% discount.

thanks for the correction Swissaholic. Unfortunately the email that Swiss rail sent to me did not give me the same info.

There should be a list of what cable cars are included. The map on the Swiss Pass site is very confusing because none of the cable cars up to Pilatus are marked in black.
