train travel lucerne to rome

Looking for advice about any difficulty making connections at Arth Goldau and Milano? Is it quick and easy particularly with ports?

I think there is a non-stop between Lucerne and Milan. Check on the website again.

What do you mean by ports?

Ports are luggage. Train timetable says the daytime trains have 2 connections. Arth Goldau and Milano.

Transfer at Arth-Goldau is easy, 2 tracks on either side of same platform.

At Milan, better book connecting train at least an hour after scheduled arrival. My experience is a delay of 25 min. Perfect timing to arrive Milano Centrale platform and watch your connecting train depart without you.

For the best prices, split the booking:

www.sbb.ch for Luzern to Milan. I'd allow at least an hour in Milan for a coffee between trains in case of any delay.

Then www.trenitalia.com for Milan to Rome from €29

If you book Luzern to Rome all the way at www.sbb.ch, the Swiss can only sell an €86 ticket between Milan and Rome (full-price full-flex) not the full Trenitalia fare range starting at €29. That's why you have to split the booking!
