Which Pass to get & what to do in Lucerne?

We intend to travel from Zurich to Lucerne by train, at the end of May, spend three nights in Lucerne, and then take a train to Basil to catch a flight. Is it worth getting a pass and which one? What should we do in Lucerne? Are there any trips to see snow in the mountains and can we use the same pass? We are in our mid-70's.

Hi Helena

You can find a large choice of things to do at Lucerne on www.luzern.com and the Top Questions about Lucerne (right side of your screen).

For trains look at www.sbb.ch/en where you can find all the other public transport information needed to decide how to do.

You will need to do the maths yourself to know if a rail pass would be an advantage for you. Look at www.swisstravelsystem.ch for more information.

Swiss passes/cards and local area passes are difficult to recommend and the people buying and using them should research what is best for their travel plans.

What to do in LucerneMt Titlis will give you the snow you want

A nice relaxing cruise on the lake might suit

Why are you going to Lucerne if you have not done any research on what there is to do there? Seems like people should know why they are going to a place.

The Tell Pass might suit you www.tellpass.ch have a look at Thea of validity map. It includes many mountain trips around the area for instance

It also includes trains and buses in the area and the boats in the area.

However the only way to see if it works for you is to decide what you want to and price up the trips and see. You also need to do the same for wherever else you are visiting.
