Hostelbookers - Faulty Booking

Hello All,

Just thought it my part to let you know that Hostelbookers booking system is not 100%. I have used them in the past with few problems, but since they have joined Ryan Air my luck, and others, has not been so great.

Recently I booked a hostel in Edinburgh. They gave me a confirmation email, AND I even paid them for my room. When I arrived at my hostel they had no record of my booking. When I told them it was from Hostelbookers the woman looked at me and started apologising. Apparently they have been giving and charging for rooms all over when it is a high season without contacting the hostels. So they are booking rooms that are in fact not available and taking down deposits for their pockets. £1 to £4 a person must really add up. To make matters better there were no rooms available anywhere in the city. I have emailed Hostelbookers three times in the last two weeks about this occasion and they have yet to even get back to me.

So just a warning to all you hostel jumpers. I would suggest using hostel world, as they have the same prices. OR just go straight to the hostel pages and book. Or you might end up on the streets with no place to go like I was.

Thanks for letting everyone know! The summer season is coming and that is a peak time for all hostels so I'm sure all those using hostels will be glad to know this company appears to be unreliable.

Hello msteph,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience but thanks for the tip. I was about to book on Hostelbookers but decided to check the forum first. Now I will try out alternative websites.

Thanks again.

Hi msteph,

Carol from HostelBookers here.

Firstly, from the points you've made I'm not entirely sure that it was HostelBookers you made your booking with. This is because you mention us working with RyanAir (which we don't), and making your full payment for a room (we don't take full payment, just a 10% deposit, with no booking fee - making us the cheapest option to book hostels online).

Aside from that, all properties on the HostelBookers site are fully aware that they're working with us, and regularly update their prices and availability on our website. As such it's just not possible that you can make a booking for a property that doesn't work with us on our website.

That said, please do get in touch with me (support @ hostelbookers.com, marked FAO Carol) with more details of your booking so that we can investigate.

May I take this opportunity to point out that we're a reputable company serving over a million customers a year, with a focus on customer service.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Carol

Hi,Carol, thanks for posting a reply to the problems expressed in the original post. It is indicative that you are a company that cares about customer service. I hope the problems are resolved to everyone's satisfaction and, if the booking company is Hostelbooker, that the "real" company is found and proves to provide good customer service as well.

I'm glad you came and cleared up that, as HostelBookers is a great place, and it was kinda disturbing to think they'd have anything to do with this though I immediately assumed they didn't, hence when you mentioned them the other people apologized.
