Lake Brienz Cruise: Direction & Time help

Hi,

For Lake Brienz paddle steamer cruise is there a recommended time or direction ( we plan to do only one 1.5 hour leg and other leg by train) for a better experience/scenery etc.

Right now there is a 11:45 cruise and then 3:10 PM cruise from Interlaken

And at 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM cruises from Brienz back to Interlaken.

Thanks in advance.

We usually take the ship from Brienz to Interlaken.

Trains depart Interlaken Ost station at :04 and :33, arriving in Brienz at :22 and :56 after the hour. You then walk across the tracks to the ship landing.

Trains to Interlaken depart Brienz at :00 and :38, arriving at :24 and :55 after the hour.

The BLS website shows the paddle steamer leaving Brienz at 13:15 and 16.50.

Hi there,

I can tell you from personal experience that by far the best tim to enjoy a cruise is to take the last steamer of the day from Brienz back to Interlaken. The boat is generally quieter and the slightly less strong afternoon sun makes it very pleasant indeed and I found the light perfect for taking photos, video etc. We have also been in late August and what we did is we went to Brienz by train and then spend a day at Ballenberg (or you could go on the Brienz-Rothorn Railway) before getting the boat back to Interlaken. It really was the perfect end to the perfect day.

Looking at the timetables, A_Guy_80 is quite right, the last boat leaves Brienz 4:50pm (i think 4:30 is the time it arrives from Interlaken)

Thanks dougb and David for helping out.

So, both of you prefer Brienz to Interlaken Ost. I was in two minds whether to take Interlaken-Brienz steamer at 11:45 AM and then spend the day around Meiringen visiting Aare gorge or further or to head straight to Meiringen and then take the last steamer back at 4:50pm from Brienz to Interlaken.

Was worried that late afternoon shower may ruin our plans as we plan to do this cruise on our last full day in Switzerland, so I was gravitating towards morning cruise but will rethink the plan now.

Thanks a ton again.
