Which of these towns is a Must-See?

We will be on a hiking trip starting in Chateau d'Oex, going to Kandersteg and ending in Wengen.

If we want to take some extra time, which of these would you recommend seeing--Murren, Meiringen, Grindlewald , Lauterbrunnen, Gimmelwald, Interlaken?

Does the train go to all these?

We love small picturesque villages.

If you like small, picturesque villages, that rules out Meiringen, Grindelwald and especially Interlaken, all of which are busy towns.

Given that you will already be hiking through the area in which the places you mention are located, why not switch to another part of the country for your extra days? You could easily get by train from Wengen to the Valais region or, if you would like a complete contrast after the high mountains, to the more pastoral Emmental or Appenzellerland.

Otherwise, you could do far worse than stay on in Wengen for a day or two.

Murren is recommended for its unique location, high on the Lauterbrunnen Valley and with views towards the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau.

Lauterbrunnen is valuable mostly to climb by the Jungfrau Train to Kleine Scheidegg, where you can walk along beautiful trails, always in view of the peaks above mentioned.

In Meiringen certainly worth a visit the gorges of the river Aar.

All these places can be reached by train, or by cable car (Murren).

I would go with Wengen or Murren. Gimmelwald is right next to Murren so you can see them both at the same time.

And you pass through Lauterbrunnen on your way to Wengen or Murren, so spend a bit of time checking out the valley and waterfalls.

neuch-you don't think these are small, with populations of only 4000-5000?

I suppose maybe they are busy and crowded in summer but we'll be coming in spring or fall.
