Travel from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg

Hi

we are planning to stay in Kleine Scheidegg next Feb / March and would like to know if there is a way to travel between KS and Wengen in the evenings.

We are a bit concerned that the hotel we are planning to stay at (Bellevue in KS) will be a bit isolated and would like to be able to visit the village of Wengen after a day's skiing.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, Kleine Scheidegg will be isolated. Why not stay in Wenden, then you can stoll to whichever restaurant you choose each evening?

Hi RITSON7, I have checked timetables for you, and I'm afraid that if you stay at Kleine Scheidegg, you will be stuck there for the night.

The last train from there to Wengen is at 18.33, and travels via Grindlewald and does not arrive in Wengen until 19.12. There are NO return trains after 17.59.

Hope this helps to make your decision.

Regards

John.

You truly will be stuck up there after dark. But the hotels will both be full at that time of year so you won't be alone.

thanks for you replies. We have decided to give it a go (only staying for 3 nights) but aren't looking forward to the journey which involves changing train 3 times.

I don't supose anybody knows an eqasier way of getting there ?

I highly recommend staying in Wengen. It is a great little village in a nice central location. Buy the Bernese Oberland Rail Pass (5 or 6 days). The pass allows you to go to Kleine Scheidegg multiple times and to nearby alpine villages (Murren, Lauterbrunnen). If you are a hiker the pass allows you to take the cable car from Wengen to Mannlichen. The one-hour trail from Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg is one of the most scenic trails in the area.

You can take a helicopter from Lauterbrunnen. Check Air Glaciers web site.

Really the ride up is not bad at all. It's part of the adventure and the attendants are really helpful.

Enjoy your trip.
