Train from Montreux to Basel

We will be in Montreux for a few days mid April (with a Viking River Cruise tour group). After we finish with the tour group we will be on our own to get to Basel. We are planning to take the train from Montreux to Basel but need advice on the best way to do this. I have looked at the Swiss railways website at www.sbb.ch but wanted to get opinions from this TA forum before I really research in depth. Is this website the best place to book train tickets for travel between Montreux and Basel? Do we need to purchase the tickets in advance or can we just walk up at the station and buy our tickets? Also, it appears there are 2 different stations in Basel where trains arrive - we would appreciate any information on which is the arrival station for trains from Montreux. We plan to spend the night in Basel once we arrive there so we basically have the entire day to travel between these 2 cities. Any advice, opinions, suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Yes, use sbb website. Use BaselSBB station.

Suggest route:- Montreux along the Golden Pass route [via Zweisimmen] to Spiez; you may get off at Montbovon for the Chocolate train excursion. From Spiez, you may stop of at Thun (walk those wooden covered bridges similar to the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne), and Bern before reaching BaselSBB. You can either put your bags in a locker at each train station, or forward the major ones to BaselSBB by SBB he day before.
