A second great roundtrip will be the trip around Mt. Rigi. From Zug you again drive in direction of “Walch-wil” and “Gotthard”. Drive along the lake through Oberwil and Wal-chwil. At Arth (end of the road) you turn left and pass the towns of Arth am See, Oberarth and Goldau. Stay on this road and you will arrive at Lauerz at lake Lauerz. You could park next to the church and walk below the school to the forest. There is a nature reserve with small lakes and many kinds of dragon-flies after crossing the road to Steinen. If you continue this path you will arrive at a little lake, the “Goldseeli”. At Lauerz there is also a distillery which you can visit.
Once you are back, continue the road until the end of the lake then turn right (speed limit 30 km/h). On this road you will meet a sign to the show-diary (it works in the early morning, but there is a restaurant and a cheese shop for raclette cheese and other cheeses they produce there.
At the end of the road turn right (watch the mirrors) and then drive ahead to Brunnen. Stop at Brunnen and go to the lake. If you walk along the lake (left side from where you came) you will walk where the old Gotthard railway used to run. You can continue this path until the end which is where the railway passes now. If you walk right side you will have a great view over the lake in direction of Trüeb/Seelisberg or in direction of Uri on the other side. There is a small bridge close to the big hotel. It goes over the “Föhn harbor”. The Föhn is a heavy wind which falls down from the moun-tains. It can be pretty dangerous for boats. They can save themselves into this protected harbor.
Coming from the big parking lot, turn right at the chapel in the center of Brunnen and follow that road. It will bring you to Gersau, Vitznau and Weggis etc. This are all pretty known places with great touristy walks along the lake. Take your time to find out. The road which brings you there is pretty narrow and there are many curbs. Drive slowly and enjoy the beautiful flowers along the road. All the north to south traffic from Basel used to pass here before the construction of the motorways.
You will arrive at Küssnacht. At the big roundabout you have a choice to turn right and drive back along lake Zug (via Arth and Walchwil) to Zug) or to follow lake Lucerne to Lucerne and drive back from there (for example on the motorway.
This roundtrip takes you 1 ½ to 2 driving hours.
