William Tell Express

My wife and I will be staying in Lucerne for a few days in mid July, and then heading to Lugano for the remainder of the week.

The William Tell Express looks like an amazing way to travel between the two cities, but unfortunately we are somewhat prone to seasickness. For anyone who has done the trip before, is the 3 hour boat ride on Lake Lucerne rough?

We were on the Fjord cruise in Norway last year, and were fine on that, but the fjords are quite still.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

No risk for seasickness. The boat is quite big and the lake mostly very still. Any Swiss lake is better in that term than a Fjord.

The boat of Willhelm Tell Express is a regualar boat service on the lake that runs every hour. The train a special coaches. The same trip can be done with regualr public transport.

Staying is Lucerne you will proably already do parts of the boat trip when you are there, for example when going to the Rigi.

It´s a lake for goodness sake, not an ocean inlet. Where should any waves come from that are large enough to rock a 60-70 m large boat?

Pfffftttt, do go on a boat when the Foehn winds hit the water and rises the waves up to 1 metre high, Brunnen gets it regularly and its real scary, same for the Walensee area !

During the Foehn storms they close the navigation anyway. I have seen that at the Walensee, it is really scary.

I was on boat between Brunnen and Fluelen last year when thew Fohn blew up, there was no discernable movement on boat, the only slight problem was on coming in to some of the landing stages, however the profesionalism of the crew make this a minimal problem. We enjoyed sitting on deck and watch the surfers and board sailorson the lake.
