Cuckoo Clocks

I have a day in Zurich coming up in April. My wife wants a cuckoo clock. Are they expensive? What do they generally cost? Where is a good place to purchase one in Zurich?

Well your first cost would be to travel about 300km north into Germany and go to the black forest. This is where cuckoo clocks come from. We don't really have them in Switzerland,... and the ones that we do have come from Germany. Have a nice visit all the same.

Well, I understand that. I only have 14 hours in between flights. Thanks for the response!

Take a look at this thread...but personally, I would want to buy nice Swiss things:

Well I won't get into an argument about where they come from, but there are definitely shops specialising in them, and selling them, in Switzerland. I can't remember where I have seen them in Zurich (I have in memory a shop around Rennweg, and Franz Karl Weber anyway would be worth a try). But the price really varies according to how elaborate they are. I recall something v simple would be c.CHF100-150 without much mechanical sophistication and going up to 3-4 times that. That's based on the range I looked at in a toy shop in Valais a month or so ago.

You should email FKW and ask. Even if they don't have them, they may know of a nearby shop.

I found a toy shop via Google maps I'll try as well. I'll check out your suggestions. Of course, I'll buy chocolate and other things, I'm sure. But my wife can't go on this trip and this is something she wanted! These are great tips. Thanks so much!

Specifically, the black forest in Germany. That's where the clocks are made. I'm heading there in April also and will be making a trip to the black forest for my clock.
