Daytrips from Amsterdam

We are planning a short break in Amsterdam (3 full days) which means we have very limited time.

We would like to visit somewhere outside the City and wondering where would be worth visiting. We would love to see the tulip fields but are also Kasteel de Haar and there seems countless other places worth visiting!

As our time is very limited, where do you recommend and what is a must see near the City. Is there an attraction we cannot miss?

We would prefer to make the most of the day so not spend hours and hours travelling but the only real limiting factor is it must be accessible by public transport.

Thank you!

you didnt say when you were coming..your tulip viewing window is very small...haarlem is a very historic city within easy 20 minute train ride from amsterdam..and it wont consume an entire day which leaves more time in amsterdam.

Just came back from a great weekend in Amsterdam, and would like to recommend Easy Rider Excursions. They organize interesting half-day trips for up to eight people out of Amsterdam.

We went to "The Fishermen villages and the Windmills" tour, which lasts about 5,5 hours. You get to see the cheese factory (taste and, if you like, buy delicious cheese) , visit the beautiful village of Volandam ( where you can also buy souvenirs at a much lower price than in Amsterdam !!? ) see both modern and old windmills, and also visit Zaanse Schans, with its still functional windmills, wooden shoes factory, and museum. This tour costs 39 EUR, and it is a money well spent.

The tour is relaxed, well balanced and the guides very knowledgeable and proffesional. For their other tours, have a look at www.easyrider-excursions.nl.

Planning on being in Holland in July around the 12th thru the 23, wondering if we can keep busy for that amount of time and what place would be a good central place to stay. Our daughter is currently in Den Bosch. Any info would be helpful..

A place we love is Scheveningen,a seaside resort outside Den Haag,it's about 40 minutes on the train from Amsterdam CS & then a short tram ride to a great beach, shopping & dining,we have often stayed there for 2 weeks or more,we've found it a great base.
