Train station - Amsterdam Zuid from Rotterdam Centraal

Dear friends,

we'll be travelling by train from Rotterdam Centraal to Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam. which station should we choose for destination - Amsterdam Centraal or Amsterdam Zuid? how can we get to the hotel from Amsterdam Zuid? understand we can take tram 5 to stop near to hotel from Amsterdam Centraal, is the tram stop far from hotel? thanks in advance for the help.

Hi there,

a) You should use Amsterdam Centraal

b) And then NOT tram 5, because it's stop is 600 meters from the hotel (shared with tram 24), but tram 16 because it stops 150 meter from the hotel. Tramstop Emmastraat. From there go south (left from the direction of the tram) and you'll see the hotel across the bridge/water.

All the best,

It depends on what time the flight of Sunday is. I'd say 2 hours at least for VG museum and another 1-2 for AF house, so packing both of them in one Saturday afternoon really seems too tight. If you can do the other one Sunday morning, better.

Pass on your other questions, hopefully more specialised people jump in.

Greetings from sunny 'Dam,

Just as an alteranative to Erik's good advice. If you do go to Amsterdam Zuid you will need to change trains in Schiphol. Train to Zuid takes 7 minutes and the tram 5 to Apollolaan takes 5 minutes approx. Then as Erik rightly says its approx 600m to the hotel from the tram stop as oppssed to 200 or so (actually google maps says 300 but approx 200).

To CS it takes just under 20mins by train from the airport then another 20 minutes by tram 16 to the Emmastraat. Nothing wrong with that but for the time saved by going via Zuid then you may decide the extra few hundred metre walk is worth it.

Thanks for the info.So is google correct when they say is an hour from Rotterdam Centraal to the hilton in Apollolaan 138.And is this the quickest way to the hotel, since we'll be carrying our luggage with us.Take the train to Amsterdam train station Zuid. Transfer to tram 5 (towards Central Station) and get off at Apollolaan. After getting off the tram (with your back facing the tram), turn right towards the traffic lights. Turn right and cross the road. Keep walking straight on and at the next traffic lights, cross the road and the Hilton Amsterdam is on your right hand side. Dimples,NYC

Yes that's right. The road that you start walking along IS the Apollolaan (two lanes with a green lawn in the middle), doublecheck the road signs...

Have fun,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

PS Note that the tram 5 halt to board is not anymore part of Amsterdam Zuid station. It moved about 150 meters to the north. Just follow the signs from the station's main exit, is basically straight-ahead from that exit and then climb the stairs to road/tram level.

I´m with Ron on this. From Rotterdam it will be much easier to go straight to Central Station (Rather than changing trains at Schiphol, then having to find tram 5) then take tram 16.

It won´t take any longer and involves much less changing and walking. Even though I know the public transport in that area well I´d still go via CS.
