Christmas Day in Amsterdam - 25th Dec - glam ball and dinner

I have found these two places for christmas day and would welcome your comments if you have been to either. I would rather go to something more than just dinner which I find quite boring esp formal dining....so if you know of any elaborate fancy dress balls or glam cabaret/dinner type of events, be great to hear from you! thanks

So far:

SupperClub or d'vijff Vlieghen

You may struggle to find more than you have. Christmas here is much less commercialised and a coonsiderably more low key affair than you'll be used to in the UK.

Afraid I can't give you specicic advice on the two places you have mentioned.

Christmas day is pretty low-key in the UK too brianc li. Everything is shut down for the day apart from the odd cornershop or petrol garage. If you're looking for entertainment it's best to attend an event that has been preorganised.

As for the OP's question, The Supperclub is a trendy restaurant/club that often has cabaret and performance acts although it's no where near as exclusive as it was in the past. And, d'vijff Vlieghen is an old world, conservative restaurant serving poshed up Dutch food. Both will be pretty much along those lines on Christmas day. I reckon The Supperclub is more what you're looking for.

I agree that the Supper Club would be your best bet for a bit of glam; if the Supper Club is full, try Nomads - also owned by the Supper Club. Tel +31 20 344 6400.

I would avoid De 5 Vlieghen - it is dull as dishwater in my view (and I have had a corporate Christmas dinner there!).

If you are looking for a very good Christmas Dinner, check out Le Zinc et les Autres (www.lezinc.nl) for a bit of french chic (and just round the corner from the Seven Bridges Hotel!). Le Zinc already has its Christmas Dinner menu on its website, and would be my choice if I had to stay in Amsterdam this Christmas!

If you are looking for a nice romantic setting, (and busy!) but full of candles, Restaurant In de Waag would be a good choice, located in the middle of the Nieuwemarkt.
