docking in ijmuiden

We are on a cruise stopping in Ijmuiden for a day. How do we get to the local town and is there anything there - bars, restaurants, shops etc. Is there a bus from the port to the town??

Many thanks

Not sure what you mean by the 'local town'.

Ijmuiden doesn't really have a lot to offer, it is basically a dormitory town for Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is best reached by a short taxi ride followed by a hydrofoil trip into the center.

Many thanks but we don't want to go to Amsterdam - just have a look round somewhere local.

There are shops in Ijmuiden and you can walk along the beach. There is also a lighthouse you can visit.

I don't know much about the town, best idea would be to go to the tourist info centre (vvv office) when you arrive. This is the address:

Dudokplein 16

+31 (0)20 - 2018800

toerisme@velsen.nl

You could try emailing them about how to get into town from the dock,

Hi

Great - I just wanted to know that there was something outside the port without having to go to Amsterdam (been there many times). How would we get from the cruise dock to the beach please??

Many thanks

Well you can almost SEE the Ijmuiden beach from the top of the ship, but it starts at the opposite side of the harbour. And no ferries of course. Would be a taxi for 10 mins and a few km, costing maybe 10 euro. Make a deal with the taxi company for pickup at a preset time later that day however, otherwise hard to get one back unless you have a locally working mobile and their contact number...

All the best,

Yep I second what Erik said. Head down to the Marina. There's a few bars and eateries there and of course the beach.

Beverwijk is nice and not too far from Ijmuiden. Nicer still is Haarlem.
