Quickest and cheapest: fly Easy Jet, but beware of their strict luggage allowance. If you need more luggage allowance, KLM would be the beat 2nd choice, followed by Lufthansa.

Easyjet have the sme luggage allowance as KLM, 20kg only you have to pay for a checked bag with Easyjet. You also have no weight restriction with a carry on bag.

KLM have return flights from around €100 just ditch the inbound if you really want to fly with them.

To give complete information: If you prefer land travel, Amsterdam-Basel takes 7 hours and 13 minutes by train, with a change in Frankfurt am Main.

You can consult www.bahn.de for train times. If you book in advance, tickets seem to cost around 100 euro one way.

The excellent City Night Line sleeper train leaves Amsterdam Centraal every night at 20:34 arriving Basel SBB in the heart of the city at 06:54 next morning.

No check-in, no trek to and from the airport, and may save a hotel bill too.

Book at www.bahn.de (English button top right).

Fares from 59 euros with couchette (simple flat sleeping bunk with rug and pillow) or from 99 euros with a bed in a 2-bed sleeper with washbasin, breakfast included (and shower at the end of the coorridor), or from 129 euros with a bed in a deluxe sleeper with en suite shower and toilet, breakfast also included.
