Keukenhof on the last day

Dear all, especially the flower field experts!

My wife and I are going to Amsterdam this coming May, and will arrive on the day before the last day of the Keukenhof gardens period.

I would just like to find out if it's going to be still worth the trip to this awesomely beautiful garden, or would it be underwhelming with all the headed tulips :(

Thanks in advance :D

No, the heading only happens on the fields outside. Hof gardeners leave all their flowers intact till the end.

The Hof always has enough flowers on display, also because they 'transplant' from greenhouse-tricked varieties to the gardens. So I would not worry too much...

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

The Keukenhof also heads their flowers when they no longer look good. I was there last weekend and already several small parts of their gardens had been headed. Most of the garden was in full bloom and very little was yet to bloom.

Most daffodils, hyacinths were already at their end and either headed or looking a bit dead.

I don't think it's still worth going those last days.

Last year I went to Keukenhof on the last week of opening, this is my experience.

All tulips outside were gone, so the place looked like a beautiful green park, without flowers. THere were some rodhodendrn still on flower, but nothing else. If you have the Keukenhof of pictures in mind... this is definitely not what you will find the last days.

The exhibitions inside were perfect, since those are cut flowers put together in combinations, they can be replaced. There were awesome liliums and ochids, for example. But stuff like that, you can be in many flower exhibitions, it wasn't anything unique.

I work in a flower shop once a week and I definitely love flowers. I was "stubborn" and I wanted to go to Keukenhof anyway, even if I had been told that most flowers were gone. Now, if I have to give an opinion about my visit... it was not work the price and the trip. Pity! :(

Dear Kenny, spring in Holland is different every year. Because of the extreme cold spring the fields were beautiful for more than a month, which is very unusual. Even today I saw some tulip fields at fool bloom along the roads. The same for the Keukenhof. As Lisa said last year the Keukenhof was very green at the end. But right now the gardens are still at full bloom. All tulips are blooming and so it’s very colorful. Off course some of them will be cut in 2 weeks but it’s still very cold right now (about 9 degrees this weekend). So I think a visit to the Keukenhof will still be a very good experience on May 20. And don’t forget, they also have a small mechanical street organ festival this day. Many greetings, Cees

Dear all,

Thank you very much for the updates and kind advise! I saw nring's latest update and yeah it still looks beautiful but I guess since I'm going some 2 weeks later it'll all likely be gone.. Given that it's also quite a distance from Amsterdam, and that we will only be there for 2 days, my wife and I have decided to give it a miss (no offense CeesTT), albeit with a heavy heart seeing all the beautiful pictures when the garden's in full bloom.

Hopefully, we will have an opportunity to visit this tulip paradise next time!
