Closing Amsterdam Coffee/Cafes To Tourists In Amsterdam

I had researched if the closing of coffee/cafes to tourists was true before our departure to Europe. Nothing definite online but lots of discussion. Grandma wanted to see if things had changed in Amsterdam! We walked right into a coffee shop without a problem, reassured by the attendants and made our selections and enjoyed the evening! Evidently many English speaking tourists were also returning here while we sat inside and watched the people passing by. You can sit outside, inside or upstairs and the menu is quite interesting. We also discovered a convenient hotel, Best Western, just across the street, which made it very convenient. I will review the hotel later. Many of the locals are against closing the cafes and the Dutch seem to have the right idea about legalization and prostitution with government supervision. Wish the USA would get it together, especially regarding those with a medical need. The locals against the cafes do have some real issues with stupid, young and loud tourists too drunk or stoned..so the reviewer who wants to have his bachelor party here better not ruin it for everybody :(

The law banning tourists from coffeeshops in the entire Netherlands is planned to go into action on January 1st 2013. Right now it is only in the border regions.

Tourists will never be banned from cafes.
