short stay apartments to rent in Amsterdam

Hello there!

I am planning a trip to Amsterdam middle of Oct and I would like to rent an apartment in, or very close to Dam Central.

I've stumbled across a few sites, but as I've only ever booked hotels through sites, such as Last Minute, Expedia, etc I'm a bit dubious as to whether they are trustworthy...

So... my question is can anyone recommend a good, decent site to book an apartment for a 5 night stay?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance :)

Well as it turns out someone in the forum recently discovered that VRBO also lists apartments that have no shortstay license. So not 100% trustworthy... it could all go well for the tourist... but it's not always legal (the owner could get into trouble... or might cancel your booking at the last minute).

As for the area, any particular reason you want to stay close to Dam square? Not the most pretty part of the city in my opinion. And convenience-wise other places rank higher too (not that Dam square is inconvenient). Read this: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g188590-c156882/Amste…

If you use the search you will find several threads asking the same question. If you find an apartment for rent on the Dam it is more than likely too good to be true. In all honestly you wouldn't want to stay on the square anyway. Try one of these below and also have a read through the Top Questions on the right side of this page.

Thanks for the responses :)

To be honest, everytime I have been I have stayed either in Dam square or very close to it, so it's a case of what I know! I like to feel central to things (whether it actually is, I don't know...!) and I have a rubbish sense of direction and kind of know my way there. I'm a rubbish tourist!!

I'm always up for trying something different, so will definitely check out some of those links and see what there is

Thanks again!

In June, I had a group of 18 people from Asia here for an extended project over a period of three weeks. The reservations were made last minute at a very busy time so the group had to move several times (no apts were available last minute for all three weeks), each time occupying three to four different apartments given the number of people. So we got a great deal of experience with one company and their properties, spending a lot of time working on the logistics and making last minute changes. We did it all through this company - www.shortstayreservations.com/en/amsterdam/ - sometimes via the website and often being in the office or on the phone with the staff. We found them more than accommodating (no pun intended), helpful, honest and fair. And reasonably priced.

There's also a very slim chance that Godzilla will smash the building with his foot. Shall we start harping on that and repeating it without just cause?

Can you please provide documentation that "sometimes properties disapear"?
