What to do at Amsterdam ??

Hi all,

I am travelling to Netherlands on December 1 and I will stay till December 5.

I have a training course that will be held at NH Conference Centre Leeuwenhorst.

I will have all the evening time for free after the training in the morning, I need to know which places I can visit and how to reach it from this hotel.

Many thanks in advance.

Well to begin with, "What to do at Amsterdam" is a bit off base since you'll be 40 km from Amsterdam. Your conference is at a somewhat isolated beach area called Noordwijk. Here are some distances and sample public transportation options to five tourist places in the general part of the country that Noordwijk is situated in:

to amsterdam http://goo.gl/maps/caxUG

to Den Haag http://goo.gl/maps/J88d2

to Leiden http://goo.gl/maps/xF6uh

to Haarlem http://goo.gl/maps/GLFuj

to Zandvoort http://goo.gl/maps/5OMR9

to Delft http://goo.gl/maps/QYDm3

Your likely best bet for evening activities is beach combing in Noordwijk and beers.

The level of interest in Noordwijkerhout for tourists may be reflected in the fact that the tourist board website for Noordwijkerhout is only in Dutch - http://www.vvvnoordwijkerhout.nl/

There is a website in English about the nearby Noordwijk - http://noordwijk.org/en/ and map from Noordwijkerhout to Noordwijk - http://goo.gl/maps/VjB7L

In the evenings out of the summer season there's probably not much to do but walk around and sit in cafes. I don't even know if there is a movie house there. Your best bet is to ask the concierge if there's anything to do in the evenings. If you finish early enough I guess traveling 45 mins to 1.5 hour to get to walk around Leiden, Haarlem, Den Haag or Amsterdam may be worth your while. Just inform well about the local bus transport back to the hotel late in the evenings. You can use the journey planner at http://9292.nl/en# for door to door journey information. You can also bring your swimmies and trackie as the hotel claims to have an indoor pool and fitness area. Maybe buff up that week.

Lenny -

You sure paint a gloomy picture. :-))

Sounds like the trainers want the trainees focused.

DD, that place on a dark windy December night is like being in the middle of nowhere. It will be extremely quiet, except for the haunting sound of the wind and the sea, very dark except for the occasional stretched out arms of an automobile's headlights looking for something solid to grasp onto and the beach and dunes will be right out of Edgar Allen Poe. I for one LOVE places like this off season. But indeed, that's what makes it a good off-season training, conference and meeting center. Inside it will be filled with gregarious near drunken businessmen regaling commercial glories and other conquests real or imagined. I for one am so GRATEFUL i never have to go to one of those events again. :)
