Enclosure dyke and Hoorn-medemblik-Enkhuizen trip

We'll be in Amsterdam (staying in ZUIDERWOUDE) for a week by 1st week may 2014.

Is it feasible to visit the Enclosure dyke by public transport?

I tried in 9292.nl...it shows train till DEN OEVER ..Is there any particular name for the place?

From here can we have a view of the DYKE ?

And also on the way back ...can we do the Steam train-Boat-train triangle trip of HOORN-MEDEMBLIK-ENKHUIZEN .

Thanks.

Hi there,

Dyke no problem. Bus from Alkmaar to Leeuwarden (Arriva QLiner 350). Nicest is to leave the bus at stop Monument, Den Oever and take next bus back, generally 1 hour later; there's no train there, strange you saw it on 9292 site. Monument is the small museum about the Dyke building with watchtower.

Yes if you plan well from Den Oever busstation (1 stop before Monument but that's about 5 km) you should be able to take bus to Medemblik or Enkhuizen, and do the triangle trip. Steamtrain and boat times are restricted though.

Thanks a lot Erik & Sandya !

Yes..it is bus..not train. I have read it wrongly.

So First we ll get down at monument stop to see the dyke and take the bus after 1 hr...and then get down at DEN OEVER bustation.

From there we ll have to take bus to medemblik or enkhuzien ?? Hope im getting the point correctly??

Thanks again.

Hi again,

Yes it's 'Den Oever Monument' stop and 'Den Oever busstation' stop. Interesting enough there is a direct bus from Busstation to Hoorn but not to closerby Medemblik, so you might just have to take that bus to Hoorn and start the triangle tour there.

All the best,

You can also consider the Houtribdijk instead. it is narrower and has more spectacular views. But only one bus per day.

Is there a day tour from Amsterdam - Enkhuizen. Possibly the triangle included but most interested in dikes and Enkhuizen.

Chris -

Found this tour on Viator which is the largest provider of tours:

viator.com/tours/…d525-2550DIKE

It includes the Asluitdijk but not Enkhuizen. If you are planning on going there for the museum, you might want to take a look at Zaanse Schaanse instead:

viator.com/tours/…d525-2550LIN2A

Here is another site you may want to take a look at:

deltawerken.com/Welcome-to-Deltawerken.Com--…

However, most forumites on here would suggest saving the money and do it on your own which is simple enough to do. This thread already provides a lot of good advice how to do it.
