Amsterdam Cruise Port to Keukenhof via Harleem

We are planning to take cruise that will be in Amsterdam on May 4, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We like to go to Keukehof via Harleem with the following route:

Train to Harleem

Walking tour of Harleem (one hour)

Bus 50 to Keukenhof

Get off at the Golden Tulip stop and walk to Keukenhof - we understand this is about 20 minutes straight walk

Is this doable? Is May 4th a good time to see the tulip fields? How long is the bus trip from Harleem to the Golden Tulip bus stop? How frequent is the Bus 50 route? We plan to be back in Amsterdam by 4:00 p.m.

Hi there,

Tight but just doable. Use journeyplanner.9292.nl for the bus timings though they won't indicate for those dates yet.

To finish your plans: don't return same route but use the Keukenhof-Schiphol bus line, and then train back Schiphol to Amsterdam.

All the best,

Why not go first to the Keukenhof, so you will be there first thing in the morning (less crowded), it opens at 8AM.

The you you can spend there as much time as you want. And afterwards if you have time left, you can do walk around in Haarlem or Amsterdam.

The best time to see the tulips depends on the temperature in spring time. If the weather is very warm than the tulips are flowering very early and if the temperature is cold the tulips will flower a bit later. Generally the last 2 weeks of April and the first week of May are the best time to visit. Besides the tulip fields there are lots of other flowers visible in the keukenhof. Just check in at this forum a few weeks before you travel, to see the latest update on the flowers.

Thank you for your all your suggestions and the helpful link.

It makes sense to go to Keukenhof first hour to avoid the crowd and then go to Harleem or Amsterdam on the way back to the cruise.

@neb07Canada

I suggest that you go whatever the temperature: even without sun or under a light rain, the tulips are extremely beautiful to see, and if anything, the rain makes the contrasts pop up more vividly. Going early will offer you a more pleasant viewing (and scent!!!) than if you were to go later in the day.

I also suggest that you have a look at these galleries of photos from a tulip fanatic, some of the galleries originate from Keukenhof : http://www.pbase.com/cwhilbun

@Nring

Your photos are beautiful.
